Kindergarten celebrated the 100th day of school! Aren't they the cutest?!?
This week we celebrate our own Mrs. Moore! Mrs. Moore has been the counselor at Silver Sage for 8 years and we are so thankful she chooses to stay with our community. She is always a calming presence and is a valuable resource to the staff and students. She is hands down the best counselor around!
We love celebrating students and learning from each other. At our assemblies we have been highlighting our community members from different cultures. This month we learned about the Ukrainian language and were taught how to count to 10 from our own students and staff members whose first language is Ukrainian! It's so much fun! Also, did you know Ukrainian was voted the 2nd most beautiful language in the world?
Mrs. Ellington's Kindergarten class did a taste test. They have been discussing the five senses and they finished it by using those senses for a taste test of some different foods. Students determined which food they liked best as a class, and which ones they did not like. They used this information to compare the numbers.
Our January newsletter has been sent out to emails! Be sure to check it out! There is a lot to look forward to the next few months. There is an updated events calendar, along with great information about student progress, kindergarten registration, PTO events, the district art contest, and after school opportunities. The email contains links with a lot of this information that is not included directly in the newsletter, so be sure you get all the info!
Book Fair has been this week and this is the final call for purchasing books. The library is open for buying books today (Thursday) from 4:15-6:00 PM and tomorrow (Friday) morning from 8:15-9:00 AM. Lots of good reading available!
Today we had our Donuts with Grownups event! It was so much fun to share the joys of reading and books with students and their families at school today. Students were able to share time with families by enjoying a donut, showing their families books they wanted to buy at the bookfair, enjoying a book walk, and getting signed up for a library card! Thanks to the staff for helping organize the event, help in the book fair, and pass out donuts. Thank you to all the families we got to share the time with, it was a great way to start our day! Keep reading and learning!
Checkmate! Students have been learning the game of chess in our after-school chess club for the past few weeks. Yesterday they held their final meeting and played their final games in a tournament. As always, they shook hands, played with sportsmanship, and tried to outmaneuver their opponents! Fantastic work by all players! Thank you to PTO and parent/family volunteers to teach our students this game.
The school was dressed in red, white and blue today while we observed Veterans Day at Silver Sage. Our 3rd Grade students gave the years first music performance today to celebrate Veterans. Patriotic songs were sang, flags were waved, poems read, and a slideshow with pictures to honor family members of our Silver Sage community. We loved sharing this time with our 3rd grade families in attendance and being together to share the special day. Thank You Veterans for your service, and Thank You Miss Dorofeyev along with 3rd grade students for your hard work and performance today.
Today we celebrated Halloween and the Harvest season! The halls and playground looked much different with all of the costumes. Classes celebrated with festivities in their classrooms. Have fun tonight Stallions and see you all tomorrow!
1st Grade got to hear important safety messages from firefighters last week. Boise Fire Fighters came to SSE to share safety tips, show some of their equipment and more. Student's loved seeing some of their community heroes up close and personal!
Students in PE have been working on their frisbee skills. 3-5 grades got to test their abilities with a disc golf course. They navigated the course all over the playground, trying to make their way to the target in the least amount of throws. Students had to learn the etiquette when playing. Luckily we didn't have to yell "Fore" too much. They also learned that a lifetime sport like disc golf can be a creative and enjoyable way to get some fresh air and exercise in local parks.
First graders collaborated to write some informational sentences about their Principal, Mrs. Spittle. They practiced some great writing tools like thinking maps, brainstormed describing words, chunked out the sentences using a tree branch, and then wrote complete sentences with their best handwriting! Their pictures also matched the description perfectly! Way to go 1st grade!
4th grade students really got a chance to build on their learning by building landforms! They had read, seen pictures, and videos about the different landforms but now they got to show what they really know by building them using sand, rocks, water, hands, and brains!
Sometimes the students just need to take the lead. Some of our older students were leading their younger peers in activities today to practice letter names, sounds, and counting. It was a ton of fun to hear them use their teacher voice and I think the students really enjoyed their substitutes for today's lesson!
What an experience for our 1st graders! Today they got to visit the Ag Expo to learn about agriculture and animals. Such a fun learning experience!
Idaho Battle of the Books begins this week! 4th and 5th grade students are encouraged to start reading! Students who choose to participate need to read at least one book by Thursday, October 11th.
Kindergartner's are transitioning to school like champions! Only a week in and they are learning their routines, using their brains, making friends, having fun, and becoming learners! Here's some pictures of them collaborating with math puzzles, sorting buttons, and more!
Today we had Heritage Day - celebrating and sharing our Heritage and cultures through dress and activities! We also had our Stallion Pride Assembly to see who next years Student Leadership team will be, chess club winners, and coming together as a school. Also, just celebrating the warm weather! Yay for spring finally! Have a great weekend Stallions!
Last week Silver Sage hosted a STEM day to help engage students in activities that teach them about Science, Technoloy, Engineering, & Math. We had volunteers giving us time and expertise to excite ours students! Thank you to those parents and the Mountain View High School student volunteers. Our students had an absolute blast!
