This year Mrs. Leishman and Mrs. Clark have paired up their first and fifth graders as reading buddies. Reading buddies is a great way to build community and model reading skills to younger students.

Our 4th and 5th graders put on a spectacular Veterans Day Performance! Thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate their hard work and honor those who have served in the Armed Forces.

Our food drive is off to a great start, but we still have lots of space in our donation barrels. Our goal is to fill up five barrels, but we can't do it without your help. Send in those nonperishable food items and help support the Meridian Food Bank.

Our kindergarteners had so much fun during enrichment library today. Seriously, you wouldn't love creating a "creepy pair of underwear"?
This craft was inspired by the book Creepy Pair of Underwear by Aaron Reynolds.

Today the NED Show visited our school! The assembly was filled with storytelling, humor, illusions and amazing yo-yo tricks where our students learned a special message: Never Give Up, Encourage Others, and Do Your Best!

Popcorn Friday is always a great day for our students, and we want to give a shout out to Stinker for supplying and bagging this month's popcorn for our students. We love having community partners like you! Thank you Stinker!

Halloween Fun at Frontier!

We had so much fun at our school-wide Halloween party!

Math does not have to be pencil to paper practice. There are lots of ways to practice math in our daily lives, from cooking, building, or even playing games. Mrs. Carr's math skills group recently practiced decimal place value while playing Yahtzee. If you have questions about how to incorporate math practice into your child's daily life, reach out to your child's classroom teacher.

As we wrap up the month of October, we want to recognize the month's "Flying High" recipients. These kids have consistently shown grit, ownership, and learners behaviors. Thanks for your hard work, Kids!

"If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?
Ghost Busters!"
This week our students are playing "Ghost Busters" in PE with Mr. Thompson. Not only are the kids getting into the Halloween spirit, but they are also developing their gross and fine motor skills, and building muscular strength in their upper and lower bodies.

Our school wide Halloween party is just a week away and we can't wait to celebrate with the kids! We will be celebrating on Monday, October 31st from 3:00-3:45 on the playground and field. Families are encouraged to join the fun, especially for the costume parade.
Games, activities, and treats will be available to all students. Our costume parade will begin at 3:30 with all students ending back at their classrooms.
Costumes should be brought to school in a bag. Students should be able to put their costumes on over their clothing with little or no help. No masks, face paint, hair dye, or weapons will be allowed. If your child does not have a costume, we will provide them with one for the afternoon if they wish.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

Good Things Grow at Frontier!
At the beginning of the year, we asked every student to set a goal for themselves...something reasonable and attainable. With hard work and determination, our students are on their way to reaching those goals.
This week we had three learners reach their goals! Charlotte can round numbers to any place value up to a million, Imogen can fluently and accurately subtract numbers up to a million using the standard algorithm, and Kellom just finished reading the entire Wings of Fire series.
Stay tuned, because we'll be sure to share more student success stories with you as goals are reached.

We're wrapping up another week of determination, collaboration, reflection, and learning here at Frontier.

Our first graders had a special visit from Boise Fire yesterday. The kids loved learning about fire safety, the truck, and the protective gear the firefighters wear. Thank you to Boise Fire for taking time out of your day to give our kids this exciting learning opportunity.

Each day our students are given the opportunity to earn "Flying High" tickets by displaying our Learner Dispositions and by modeling the Frontier Way and Mission Statement. Those tickets are entered into a drawing and then a few are selected to eat lunch at a special table in the lunchroom at the end of each month.
We are proud of the hard work our students display day in and day out!

Frontier's first graders had so much fun at today's Ag Expo. This was a great opportunity to learn about agriculture from WestAda's High School FFA students and we are so glad to have this event back!

Picture Day is almost here!
Individual student pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 29th. Be sure to check backpacks for order forms.

The Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program that puts fresh fruits and vegetables in the hands of elementary students across the nation, and Frontier is lucky enough to be a part of the program. Our students will receive a fresh fruit or vegetable twice a week with the hopes that they are introduced to produce that they otherwise might not have the opportunity to sample.
On Thursday, our students were introduced to rambutan, which is native to Malyaysia. The name comes from the Indonesian word "rambut", which means "hair". We can't wait to see what other new and interesting fruits and vegetables are students get to sample in the future.

Today Frontier received a donation from The Idaho EYES Project --Equity in Youth Education and Sports. This organization aims to help young Idahoans reach their academic and athletic goals. Frontier is honored to be the first recipients of this generous donation.
