The fourth graders tackled a very large division problem and came out successfully. They were so proud of their work that they wanted to hang it in the hallway for all to see, which of course made for a great photo op!
All of our students, not just these fourth graders, are accepting challenges when it comes to math, taking risks in their learning, persevering when the learning gets tough, playing with numbers, and working collaboratively in order to be successful in their learning.
We couldn't be prouder of what they are doing and the growth we are seeing!

Mrs. Leishman's first graders build their reading fluency every day, but on this day they were able to read about bats...in the dark....with flashlights! Students love engaging activities like this that takes an every day activity and turns it into something a little more fun!
Frontier Elementary School Counselor Sara Jo Buffington is offering a six-week session of Parenting the Love & Logic Way at Frontier Elementary for any West Ada School District parents and/or educators who are interested.
Love & Logic is a parenting approach that provides parents with an opportunity to gain practical and proven tools for raising respectful and responsible kids. Classes will begin Monday February 6, 2023 from 6-8 pm in the Frontier library and will be held weekly. The last class will wrap-up on Monday March 13, 2023. The cost of the class is $15 per person/couple (to cover the cost of the workbook).
If you have attended a session previously and want to sit in again (and already have a workbook) you are more than welcome to do so at no cost.
Please email buffington.sara@westada.org by February 3, 2023 in order to reserve your spot! Money will need to be collected so that workbooks can be purchased before the class begins.
Mrs. Stewart's second grade class recently learned about Chinese New Year, along with Chinese traditions and culture.
Our students have been working hard this semester to reach their academic goals. The kids pictured here have set, worked towards, and achieved their learning goals in the last month. We couldn't be prouder of their hard work and determination!

Mrs. Stewart's kids had the best time celebrating the holidays in class this week. It's clear that the cookie decorating was a success!
Learning to skip rope can be tricky, especially for younger learners, but when you have a big buddy to to give you a few tips it can be much easier.
PE teacher, Mr. Thompson, buddied up our first and fifth graders for some jump rope fun, and as you can see from the pics the kids loved every minute of it!
What's better than a comfy, cozy day at school? Not much!
Our students were recently "Snowed In"! They spent the day in comfy pajamas and wrapped up in blankets with their stuffed animals. They listened as Miss Rutan read them a winter story, then collaborated with a student from another grade level to brainstorm what they would do if they were snowed in at home.
Students went back to their classrooms where they wrote creatively about their perfect snow day. There was lots of talk about snowmen as tall as skyscrapers, snowball fights, hot cocoa, and reading a good book by the fireplace. It was pretty much the perfect "snow day" at school!
Mrs. Leishman's first graders had the best time throwing "snowballs" at each other during math last week. During this snowball math activity, they practiced their addition skills by identifying doubles, doubles plus 1, and making 10s. To wrap it all up, the kids were able to have in indoor snowball fight with their teacher.
We love this fun and engaging activity and know the kids did to!

Let's give it up for Lucas, a 4th grader at Frontier. At the beginning of the school year he set the goal that he would master the skill of summarizing informational texts, which includes identifying the main idea and supporting details of a text. He mastered that just a few weeks back and went on to set a second goal for himself. Just last week he showed mastery of 2-digit x 2-digit multiplication, meeting his second goal of the year.
Congratulations, Lucas, and all of our students that have set and met goals this year. You should be proud of your hard work and determination in the learning process. Good things grow at Frontier!
Our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders put on an amazing performance at this morning's Christmas Program. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our kiddos, and of course a great big thank you to Mrs. Kaldenberg for her behind the scenes work to make this program possible.
School of Choice Applications for the 2023-24 school year are now OPEN!
Intent to continue for Elementary Schools of Choice, STEM Academies, Renaissance High School and Idaho Fine Arts Academy (IFAA):
-Students currently attending a School of Choice, must go on to PowerSchool
and complete the "Intent to Continue" form.
-Out of District students on an approved transfer must complete the 2023-24 out of district transfer application by February 1, 2023.
In-District and Out-of-District Transfer Students:
-Applications for the 2023-24 school year are now available online
-Application deadline for the 2023-24 school year is February 1, 2023
-Decisions for transfers will be made before June 1, 2023
-A students needs to have an approved application to be able to attend the school of choice requested for the 2023-24 school year

Our kindergarteners would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
Our 2nd graders had a great time on their field trip last week, but they especially enjoyed a quick lunch and time to play at the park on their way back to school.
Ever wondered why some volcanoes are taller than others? Well, Mrs. Dutcher's 4th grade students were able to find the answer to that question.
It turns out that it all depends on the thickness of the magma inside the volcano. Volcanoes with thick magma are taller and are known as Cone Volcanoes, while volcanoes with thin magma are smaller and are called Shield Volcanoes.

That's how many non-perishable food items our Frontier community donated to the Meridian Food Bank. Our goal was to fill five barrels full of food, and as you can see we did that, plus more! Thank you to everyone, staff and students, who helped others in their time of need.
Frontier Second Graders took a field trip to the Boise WaterShed yesterday. While there they learned where water is located on Earth, the three forms of water, and the purpose of the watershed in community.
This week Mrs. Keef's students were able to conduct a hands-on science experiment. They were excided to learn about erosion in the world around them.
This morning our school librarian, Mrs. Knam, and a few of our students had a special visit from the Idaho Lottery. She is a recipient of their "Bucks for Books" grant and was awarded $3,000 to purchase new books for our school library. Writing grants is not easy, but the outcomes are worth it. We appreciate everything Mrs. Knam does to make sure our students have books in their hands!
