Wednesday is a Professional Learning day for teachers, which means no school for students. Please read our West Ada District's explanation and watch the attached video: WHAT IS TEACHER COLLABORATION?
Every Wednesday in West Ada teachers collaborate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The goal of this sacred collaboration time, and the collaboration days scheduled for teachers throughout the school year, is to understand and embrace the professional learning community philosophy.
The philosophy is comprised of three components:
Learning: Ensuring that all students learn
Collaboration: Develop a culture within the school community focused on continuous job-embedded learning for educators
Results: Identifying, creating, and evaluating systems to monitor progress and improve learning for all
In PLCs, teachers are able to engage in professional dialogue with colleagues about curriculum, student learning, assessment, and achievement. This time also provides the opportunity for teachers in grade level and content area PLCs to reflect, tapping into the collective abilities of staff. "The most promising strategy for sustained, substantive school improvement is building the capacity of school personnel to function as a professional learning community" (McLaughlin, 1995). Educators in West Ada consistently and continuously use collaboration time to seek, share, and act on their learning in order to improve their practice toward the goal of improving student learning and achievement.
This Wednesday, April 5 is a NO SCHOOL day for students in grades K-12 to allow for a Professional Learning Day. For more information on professional learning and collaboration in West Ada, we invite you to watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIx6kftUkvo
