The West Ada Career Technical Education (CTE) Small Gasoline Engines program offers students a glimpse into the world of small engine repair and maintenance.  Pathway coursework and curriculum will educate students on small engine maintenance and operation, parts identification, theory of operation along with hands on experience, where they will demonstrate applied techniques in the repair and maintenance of two and four cycle engines.

At the conclusion of this pathway, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the workforce or continuing their post-secondary education, after graduating from high school.   In addition to a new industry skillset, students who successfully complete this pathway can earn an Equipment and Engine Training Council (EETC)/2-4 Stroke Engine as well as a STIHL Bronze Level Training certification.

  11th grade, full year class

• Advanced Small Gasoline Engines II
  12th grade, full year class

Overall, small engine repair is a great career and a long-term venture.  Today's economy relies on small engine powered tools, therefore as long as people have power equipment, motorcycles, and small watercraft, your skill set is always in need.  Additionally, having proper training and certifications right out of high school can help jumpstart your career quickly!

CTE Center- Meridian Campus

For the Small Gas Engine pathway, students will have the opportunity to travel to the CTE Center- Meridian Campus for their 10th-12th grade pathway courses.  Here they will have access to a state of the art technical center, equipped with industry parts, tools and classroom instruction.

This center is located on the Meridian High School campus, in Meridian, Idaho.  It is a state of the art technical center, which houses the West Ada School District's auto, collision, diesel, early childhood education, welding, plant sciences and small gas engine pathways.

What is a Small Gas Engine?

The term 'small engines' can be somewhat misleading, since the name refers to gas-powered engines that produce less than 25 horsepower (hp). 

Additionally, they are categorized by their engine process, which means there are two types: 2-stroke and 4-stroke.  Some examples of machines with small engines include lawn mowers, chainsaws, ATVs and motorcycles, go-carts, and grain augers.
