Thinking of a career in food service?  The West Ada Culinary Arts program provides students with exponential opportunities to advance their skills and knowledge of food preparation & safety, nutrition, service and sanitation.  Renaissance High School is home to the culinary program, where advanced students will train in a state-of-art culinary center. 

At the center, students will receive classroom instruction as well as hands-on lab time in an industry-modeled kitchen with specialized commercial equipment for culinary and pastry preparations.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to run a live cafe where they will experience and perform the duties required of personnel in the restaurant industry.       

Pathway Course Sequence:

  • Foods and Nutrition
    10th grade, semester class

  • Introduction to Culinary Arts
    11th grade, full year class 

  • Advanced Culinary Arts
    12th grade, full year class

Did you know?
Students have the opportunity to earn two certificates upon completing the Culinary Arts pathway? The Ready Set Food Safe and the National Restaurant Association ServSafe Certification are two industry aligned certifications that are possible for students to graduate high school with!

What's Cooking This Week?

Cafe Renaissance presents "Tastes of Asia," a special menu available on February 6-7th from 11:15 to 11:45 at 1303 E Central Dr. The menu features a variety of Asian-inspired dishes, starting with the Thai Coconut Curry Soup ($3.95), which includes chicken, cilantro, and Thai basil, served with pan-fried roti bread. For a fresh and crunchy option, the Orange Sesame Salad ($4.25) offers a mix of green salad with orange segments, almonds, and crispy chow mein noodles. The Pork Banh Mi Sandwich ($5.25) consists of marinated grilled pork with pickled vegetables and spicy mayo on a baguette, accompanied by Asian broccoli slaw. Another flavorful option is Chicken Yakisoba ($6.95), featuring stir-fried vegetables, teriyaki chicken, and noodles. The Tonkatsu Pork ($6.95) is served with sticky rice and steamed broccoli for a satisfying meal. For dessert, indulge in the Yuzu Lemon Tart ($3.95), topped with caramelized meringue, or try the Chinese Five Spice Banana Cake ($3.95), served with caramelized banana ice cream. Café Renaissance is a student run, instructor supervised cafe. They are open Thursdays and Fridays from 11:15 am-11:45 pm for lunch!  Open to school staff and the general public.

CTE Center- Renaissance Campus
The Culinary Arts program creates an unique academic experience for students in the pathway.  Students will take their 10th & 11th grade pathway courses at their zoned-home high school and then travel to CTE Center-Renaissance Campus to finish their 12th grade Advanced Culinary Arts course, to complete the pathway.   

The CTE Center-Renaissance Campus is located on the Renaissance High School campus, in Meridian, Idaho.  This campus features a state-of-the-art career technical facility, housing numerous CTE programs as well as serving students as a School of Choice High School that focuses on academic rigor and college readiness.
