Certified Nursing Assistant

The West Ada Career Technical Education (CTE), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program begins in the 10th grade where students will jump right into their prerequisite class, Health Professions. This class is a foundational course where students learn sports medicine skills and gain knowledge of the health care industry, best practices and general medical terminology.  In the 11th and 12th grade, students will travel to CTE Center- Renaissance Campus, where they will complete two years of hands-on practical CNA training.  CTE Center- Renaissance Campus features a state of the art CNA lab, where students will demonstrate their acquired skills in a realistic hospital triage simulation lab. 

Pathway Course Sequence:

  • Health Professions
    10th Grade, full year class

  • Medical Terminology
    11th Grade, semester class

  • Certified Nursing Assistant
    12th Grade, semester class

CTE Center-Renaissance Campus

The CNA program creates an unique academic experience for students in the pathway.  Students will take their 10th grade Health Professions class at their zoned-home high school, followed by the remainder of the pathway at the CTE Center-Renaissance Campus.   

The CTE Center-Renaissance Campus is located on the Renaissance High School campus, in Meridian, Idaho.  This campus features a state of the art career technical facility, housing numerous CTE programs as well as serving students as a School of Choice High School that focuses on academic rigor and college readiness.

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), you will use your skills for good as you help patients with healthcare needs, while under the supervision of a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse.  CNAs are needed in a variety of settings, such as nursing homes, hospitals, in-home care, and assisted living facilities. 

While working as a CNA, you will have daily contact with patients, monitor vitals, assist with medication, daily hygiene and much more.
