The Animal Science program introduces and equips students with the skills needed to become successful in the care of animals.  Coursework covered in this program includes topics such as concepts and principles of animal nutrition, health, behavior, reproduction, and explores animal science related careers. 

This pathway includes sequential courses, Animal Science I-IV. In the capstone class, Animal Science IV, students have the opportunity to engage with area businesses to increase their exposure to real world veterinary work and related animal science careers.  Students will engage and become familiar with the inner workings of veterinary office procedures and successful interactions between pets, owners, and veterinarian staff.

What does a Veterinary Assistant do?
Veterinary Assistants and Technicians care for animals under the supervision of a veterinarian. They're responsible for feeding, administering medications, bathing, and exercising the animals, as well as assisting a veterinarian during procedures and exams. 

CTE Center-Meridian Campus

The Animal Science program creates an unique academic experience for students in the pathway.  Students will take their 9th and 10th grade courses at their zoned-home high school and continue their 11th and 12th grade courses at the CTE Center-Meridian Campus. 

This center is located on the Meridian High School campus, in Meridian, Idaho.  It is a state of the art technical center, which houses the West Ada School District's auto, collision, diesel, early childhood education, welding, plant sciences and small gas engine pathways.
