Alternative Schools

Proposed High School Academy Restructuring (2025-26)

Overview: The proposed restructuring of West Ada's high school alternative schools (Central Academy, Eagle Academy, Meridian Academy, Rebound and Virtual School House) includes several key changes to enhance resources and support for students. Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, Rebound School of Opportunity and Virtual School House (VSH) will relocate to the current Central Academy building. This move aims to offer better access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes, improved facilities, and greater enrollment opportunities.

Current Central Academy students will transition to either Eagle Academy or Meridian Academy, based on their attendance boundaries. Eagle Academy will serve students from Eagle High, Owyhee High, and Rocky Mountain High, while Meridian Academy will serve students from Mountain View High, Meridian High, and Centennial High.

To provide more flexibility, students at the academies will have the option to attend either a morning or afternoon in-person session. Both sessions will include a mix of in-person and asynchronous learning, with transportation and lunch services available. Additionally, students enrolled in CTE courses will continue to have access to shuttle transportation. Any currently enrolled (2024-25) high school academy student who would like to enroll in both sessions may do so, allowing them to be in class for a total of 6 hours per day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 3 hours on Wednesdays (please refer to the FAQ below for sample schedules).

The restructuring is designed to strengthen support systems, increase graduation rates, and ensure all students in alternative education programs continue to thrive academically and socially. This transition is part of the district's broader commitment to improving outcomes for students in alternative education settings.

Academy High Schools (Central, Eagle and Meridian)

West Ada School District's High School Academies offer a small-school environment for students in 9, 10, 11, and 12th grade who are at risk of not succeeding at their current high school.

What puts a student at risk varies greatly by the student. For some students, adapting to a larger school environment is simply overwhelming. Others may have learning or emotional issues that make school a greater challenge. Others may simply need more individualized instruction to spark their interest in learning.

The program at the district's Academy High Schools are designed to keep students in high school while focused on graduation with a successful academic record. Students at academy high schools participate in student support groups and are required to live up to the school's high standards of behavior.

Alternative Middle Schools (Crossroads and Pathways)

Our school of choice middle schools offer 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students an environment that is smaller, provides one-on-one attention and more hands-on activities.

The need for these magnet schools comes from a variety of sources. For some children, adapting to a larger school environment in 6th grade is simply overwhelming. Others may have certain personal issues that make school a greater challenge, thus needing more one-on-one attention from a teacher. Others may simply need more individualized instruction to spark their interest in learning. Therefore, the student body is comprised of the entire range of students from those who have previously struggled to those who are identified as gifted academically.

The program at these schools is designed to help students meet grade level expectations and then excel in their academic pursuits. Students generally go on to attend one of the district's traditional high schools, although a smaller percentage continues in an academy program in high school.

These schools serve approximately 150 students. Transportation is provided via shuttle buses from their traditional middle schools.
