Retirement Benefits

West Ada School District understands the importance of understanding your retirement. Our goal is to equip you with information needed to make the best educated decision about your retirement.

  • Any certified, classified, or administrative employees thinking and planning to retire must notify your supervisor/principal by submitting a retirement letter as soon as possible. This way, we can move forward with a replacement for your position.

  • About six months prior to your anticipated retirement, contact PERSI by calling 334-3365 or visit their website at www.persi.idaho.gov for a benefit estimate.  If you have already received a benefit estimate (not an annual account statement), and you are going to retire on the date specified in the estimate, contact PERSI six weeks prior to retirement to receive a retirement application and to set up an appointment to finalize your paperwork.  The minimum age to retire with PERSI is 55 to receive a monthly retirement benefit.

  • Human Resources will email you to set up a retirement insurance meeting once your retirement letter/termination paperwork is received.

How to figure Sick Leave Fund:

  • Any unused sick leave that you have accumulated prior to retirement can be used to continue your benefits. Your unused sick hours times one half (.5) your hourly rate of pay equals the amount available to purchase retiree insurance.  After that sum is exhausted, you may continue these benefits by paying with your retirement funds.

You may continue any combination of group benefits:  medical/Rx, vision, dental, and life (if applicable). Deferment of these decisions is available for applicable insurance plans. Speak with the HR Department for details.

* Idaho Code 33-1228 allows eligible retirees to convert their unused sick leave to a retirement account that can be used to pay qualifying insurance premiums. Once converted, the unused sick leave shall be used to pay premiums for “group health, vision, prescription drug and dental insurance programs as maintained by the employer.”

* The Human Resources Department will provide PERSI with the balance of your unused sick leave, which will then be converted to a dollar value by PERSI.
