Scholarship Resources

  • Look for scholarships listed on your college's financial aid page for both merit, and department scholarships. Apply by the institution's deadline. 

  • Apply for scholarships offered by the State of Idaho.  State Board of Education: (watch for deadlines) or use Scholarship Idaho Application

  • Check out the list of scholarships on Next Steps Idaho

  • If you are going out of state, apply for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE): wiche.edu/wue

  • Use scholarship search engines to help you find national scholarships:  See below for a few

    examples.

  • Check RMHS Senior Team. We update your team with scholarships all year long, so be sure to watch the scholarship channel 

  • Ask your parents or grandparents if they are members of Rotary, Lions Club, or Kiwanis.  These clubs often offer scholarships for members children.

  • Do you have a job? Ask your employer if the company offers a scholarship. 

  • Check Idaho Community Foundation.  It has over 60 scholarships, each with its own criteria and application.

  • Check out the bullets shown below this page (on the left). These are links to specific scholarships. 

  • Be aware of scholarship scams.  You should not be charged a fee.  Also, watch for wording such as finalist letter or scholarship guarantee.

  • Track your scholarships and make a plan at the beginning of the year by setting a weekly goal for yourself!

Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship – Academic

  • We manage the applications for this program only. Award decisions are made by the Governor’s Cup staff.

  • Deadline February

  • Requires 2.8 GPA, graduating senior of an Idaho high school, essay, strong public service/volunteerism experience.

  • Must go into a non-career/technical education associate’s degree or be seeking a bachelor’s degree.

Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship – Career/Technical

  • We manage the applications for this program only. Award decisions are made by the Governor’s Cup staff.

  • Same requirements as Academic but applicants must be going into a career/technical program that leads to a credential such as Technical Certificate, Advanced Technical Certificate, or Associates of Applied Science.

  • Deadline last year was later: April

Kids' Chance of Idaho

  • Available for the children of Idaho work comp claimants seriously injured or killed on the job.

  • Deadline of April (see website for exact date)

Assistance League of Boise

  • The Assistant League of Boise’s Project Hearing Committee provides scholarships of up to 3.000 er year to Ada County students with severe hearing loss. These scholarships are for attendance at any accredited college or University, Junior college, or Vocational program.

Opportunity Scholarship

  • Deadline for applications and FAFSAs is March

  • Students must attend the first semester after high school graduation.

  • Students’ cumulative unweighted GPA must be at least a 2.7.

  • This scholarship will be “auto-matched” again this year, meaning all students have to do is complete the general application and select “yes” on the question that will ask if they are interested in applying for the Opportunity scholarship. They do not need to submit anything else beyond the general application.

     

Opportunity Scholarship for Adult Learners

  • Deadline is three weeks before each semester begins

  • For Idaho residents who plan on attending Idaho colleges or universities

  • Students must have at least 24 postsecondary credits

  • Must not have attended a postsecondary institution within the previous 24 months before applying for this scholarship

  • GPA requirement is a 2.7

  • FAFSA needs to be submitted before semester begins

     

Idaho Launch Scholarship

  • For students entering into an in-demand career in Idaho Occupations in Demand | Idaho Labor Market Information

    • Students must complete career assessments in Next Steps Idaho: Plan Smart Assessment (with reflection), Interest Profiler Assessment (with reflection), and Work Values Assessment.

  • Be graduating from an Idaho High School (or equivalent) and be an Idaho resident.

  • Be enrolled in an Idaho institution after graduation (medical and religious exception allowed)

Early Graduation Scholarship
The Early Graduation Scholarship is a scholarship available to Idaho public school students, who graduate at least one full year early. The scholarship is equal to 35% of the Average Daily Attendance (ADA) for a given school year. This equates to an estimated $1,800. The award amount will double for student who graduate two years early and will triple for students who graduate three years early. Scholarships are available to students who attend an Idaho public college. Template (idaho.gov)

One last note: After we make offers next April, students can log on to the scholarship site to check their status. Starting in late April, students should be watching for emails (even in junk/spam and other folders) and logging on to the scholarship site to check their status. Students should mark scholarshiphelp@osbe.idaho.gov as a safe sender in their email program and not use a high school email account.

Distinguished Young Women occurs every January through March and is a national program held each year for Junior-aged girls, with a local chapter for Boise Valley which includes Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and Star. The program teaches valuable life skills like interviewing and public speaking. The girls also learn about health, fitness, responsibility and serving others while making new friends with other girls around the Boise valley.  Additionally, they have a chance at taking home some college scholarship money. This past year we gave out over $10,000 of scholarship money to 11 of the 14 girls who participated last year!! Distinguished Young Women

Using a database or search engine allows you to search for multiple scholarships by either using a keyword or by creating a profile. There are many options, but here are a few to explore. Consider creating a separate email account for scholarships and choose one or two from the list to avoid getting duplicates.

Army Minuteman Scholarship

REQUIREMENTS THE ARMY RESERVE MINUTEMAN PROGRAM:

  • Be a U.S. citizen

  • Between ages of 17-30*

  • Valid Chapter 2 MEPS physical

  • Currently eligible for enlistment

  • Ability to pass Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)

  • Meet Army Physical standards (AR600-9)

  • Receive Mission Subordinate Command (MSC) Commander, Army Reserve Ambassador (ARA),or Civilian Aides to the Secretary of the Army (CASA) nomination

  • Acceptance letter to a college or university with a ROTC program

  • Professor of Military Science (PMS) interview

  • Proof of academic major

  • 1000 ACT or 19 SAT scores, 2.5 GPA

  • Participate in Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

  • Once commissioned... 8-year service obligation * Must not have turned age 31 by Dec. 31st of commissioning year.

Rocky Scholarships

The Elyse Prow Memorial Scholarship

Deadline for submittal to the RMHS Career Center April (come to career center for exact date)

The $1,250 Elyse Maree Prow Memorial Scholarship is available to: 

  • Rocky Mountain High School graduating senior

  • A Diamond Dancer at RMHS (past or present)

  • OR involved in Solid Rock theater, or Musical Theater or Advanced Stagecraft at Rocky Mountain High School

  • Must attend college or trade school in the fall after graduation.

Required Application Materials

  • Completed Scholarship application

  • Essay: (250-500 words double-spaced Times News Roman 12 point)

In either activity/sport, please discuss a time when ONE of the following situations occurred. 

  • A moment when you experienced an opportunity to lead your group and how it positively affected you. 

  • A moment that was viewed as a hardship and you were able to make it a positive experience for you and/or a teammate.   

  • A moment that you were able to transfer a lesson learned in one activity to the other activity.    Application will open beginning of each calendar year.

The Scholarship Program seeks to clarify the complex college planning process and motivate and reward students to prepare for college with scholarships based on their efforts and action.

Distinguished Young Women of Idaho
Distinguished Young Women of Idaho is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women.

College scholarships are awarded at the state level ($30,100.00 last year) and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1 billion nationally). And one representative will advance to the national program in Mobile, Alabama where they give away over $130,000 in cash tuition scholarships.

And it’s FREE to participate!

We have an informational meeting in December of each year  

It will be held on Zoom. We will email the link a couple days before to anyone who has applied on the site, as well as to the counselors at the high schools.  All applicants and parent(s) should attend, and we also welcome and encourage counselors from the high school to attend also. It will inform you about what is in store and can help spread the word about this wonderful program!
