Potential Pros

Potential Cons

  1. Save money - your $4,125 will go a long way toward paying for your degree (you will end up paying some out of pocket)

  2. Credits you pay for out of pocket are at the reduced high school rate

  3. Start college with Junior status - enter into higher-level degree focused courses sooner

  4. Graduate college sooner and begin your career earlier

  1. If you are uncertain of your future plans, entering college with sophomore or junior standing may mean you'll have to declare your major quickly

  2. A shortened college experience

  3. fewer high school opportunities and experiences (sports, clubs, jobs, extracurriculars, etc.)extracurriculars, etc.)

Earning an Associate Degree in high school is doable, with a significant investment of time and work. Things to consider:

· Do you have the time? Earning an AA (Associate of Arts) or AS (Associate of Sciences) requires about 60 college credits. Generally, the number of credits for a class is equivalent to one hour of class instruction every week, and between 3-5 hours of work outside of class per credit. For example, English 101 is worth 3 college credits. You could expect:

o Class time: 3 hours/week

o Homework: average of 9-15 hours/week

· A HUGE time commitment – requires taking extra courses each semester and over summer

· Why are you pursuing this? Your MVHS College & Career Counselors are here to help you work through whether this is a good option for your situation!

Boise State University – two options

· Associate Degree (AA or AS)

o 60 college credits

o Significant time commitment

· Sophomore Start (start college with the credits of a sophomore)
