ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS:

There are no cuts made in middle school sports. Every athlete who comes out to participate in a sport will make a team. Skill, attitude, and work ethic will be considered when selecting teams.

  • All athletes must be registered to participate at www.aktivate.com. Parents will need to create an account the first time to login.

  • Purchase an activity card for $22.25. They only need to purchase one for the entire year. Funds from activity cards are used to pay for official, book and timekeepers, and equipment upkeep.

  • Pay the $90 participation fee for each sport an athlete joins before the first game to be allowed to participate. This is a non-refundable fee. The money is forwarded to the district office to pay for transportation (busses to and from games) and coaches’ stipends ONLY. Some financial assistance may be available. For more information, please contact the Athletic Director, Sonya Farnham at farnham.sonya@westada.org.

  • Pay online through our school webstore at www.westada.org/mms or with the bookkeeper in the main office.

Behavior:

  • Athletes are a representative of MMS. They are expected to adhere to the student-athlete code of conduct at all times. Inappropriate behavior will result in disciplinary action.

Attendance:

  • Players are expected to attend every practice. Practice is every day after school from 3:20-5:00 p.m. These days and times may differ from sport to sport. Athletes MUST be off campus no later than 5:15 p.m. Any athlete still on campus at this time, will be required to walk to the public library across the street on Cherry Lane.

  • Athletes MUST attend school the entire school day to participate in extracurricular activities after school or in the evening of that same day.

  • If a student-athlete is suspended, including in-school suspension, they are not allowed to practice or participate in after-school activities until they have met with the coach and/or athletic director.

  • All absences MUST be accompanied by a note or email from the parent/guardian to be excused. More than two (2) unexcused absences will result in a loss of playtime.

  • Numerous absences will be seen as a lack of commitment and may result in dismissal from the team.

Grades:

  • Athletes MUST maintain passing grades in all classes to participate. Grade checks are done every Friday.

  • Student-athletes who fail a class for two (2) consecutive weeks will NOT be allowed to participate in games until the grade has been raised to passing (D or above).

  • Any athlete who is ineligible to participate due to grades will NOT be allowed to attend the away games with the rest of the team.

Clothing/Equipment:

  • Appropriate clothes for practice must be worn by every athlete. The MMS dress code policy will be used as guidelines to determine school-appropriate clothing.

  • NO jewelry is allowed during practice and games. This includes watches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, nose rings, etc.

  • Athletes are responsible for all equipment checked out to them during the season. They will be required to return all items at the end of the season.

  • Athletes who do not turn in their uniform will be charged the cost of replacing the lost items. Yearbooks will not be distributed until all fines have been cleared with the bookkeeper.

Concussion Information

Paramount in our athletic program is the well-being of our student-athletes. We will take a very conservative approach in the event of a concussion or a suspected concussion.
