Tryout Information
Cheer try outs are right around the corner and the EHS cheer coaches are excited to start a new season! Our goal is to keep cheerleading fun; however, it requires a lot of time and dedication for the 10-month season. This level of commitment is not for everyone – please read the information below so you can decide if this is something you can do prior to trying out.
Cheer, tumbling, jumps and dance choreography will be taught the first two nights of choreography. Students will be judged on those skills the evening of May 9th. For the night of judging (May 9th), students should wear black shorts, a solid white t-shirt, and cheer or athletic shoes. Hair should be worn in a secure ponytail.
Once the 2025-2026 teams are announced, we will practice four days per week May 13th through the 23rd. Weekly team tumbling will begin the week of May 26th (and continue through October 31st). Summer practices will start July 7th and go throughout the rest of summer break, practicing 5 days per week. Attendance is very important. During summer practices, you will learn cheers, stunts, and choreography to be prepared for fall sporting events and the pre-competition season. During the 2025-2026 season, you can expect to be practicing or cheering at games most nights of the week and competition choreography on select Saturdays. EHS cheerleaders cheer for football, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and spend a lot of time preparing for the competition season.
Cheerleading is a year-round sport. Being part of the EHS cheer program will take a substantial amount of time. Cheerleaders will not be allowed to miss practices. Each cheerleader will be given 5 personal days for the whole season. Appointments, jobs, and vacations must be worked around the cheer schedule. An Absence Request Form is on the EHS Cheer website.
Participating in cheerleading is a financial commitment – a family can anticipate spending between $1,500-$2,000 per cheerleader. This money will include cheer gear, summer camp, specialized training, tumbling, and more. We are still planning the season - a final dollar amount will be shared at the pre-try out meeting. The amount will be due in full at our post-try out meeting Saturday, May 10th. If you are unable to pay in full at this meeting, please reach out to me for payment options.
Each cheerleader will be required to participate in fundraising and recruiting of sponsorships. Parent participation will also be necessary to facilitate fundraising events throughout the summer and school year.
If you have any questions regarding try outs or the cheer program, please reach out to me at murphy.francesca@westada.org. The team will be announced via West Ada student email the night of May 9th. On behalf of Coach McCall, Coach Anna, Coach Lyndzee, Coach Hailey and myself, we look forward to meeting you and having an amazing season!
Go Mustangs!
