Associate Degree – A Concurrent Enrollment Option for High School Students
An associate degree is an undergraduate academic degree awarded by colleges and universities upon completion of approximately 60 credits. Boise State offers an associate degree in arts (AA) and science (AS) which provides an academic foundation for a future major.

A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE FOR MOTIVATED STUDENTS
Boise State’s associate degree in arts or science provides students with a broad-based academic study which fulfills many general education requirements or Boise State Foundations (F) courses. This is a significant milestone for high school students and should be reserved for motivated students looking to invest time and commitment to obtain an associate degree while still in high school.

If you would like to earn an associate degree and plan to eventually earn a bachelor’s degree, it is crucial to understand how your intended college will accept your earned credits. To help guide students through these considerations, participants are supported by a Concurrent Enrollment advisor throughout their time pursuing the Associate Degree option.

Who can Participate in the Associate Degree Option?
To participate in Boise State’s Concurrent Enrollment Associate degree option, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a freshman or sophomore in high school

  • Attend Eagle High or Rocky Mountain High

  • Have signed permission from a parent or guardian

  • Have a goal to complete a minimum of 60 college credits while in high school

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

  • Be willing to take summer dual credit courses in either the online or in-person format

How to Prepare
As a freshman, be sure to prepare yourself for this option throughout the year. Set yourself up for academic success by doing the following:

  • Focus on your grades– You must maintain a 3.0 GPA to participate in the Associate Degree option.

  • Take prerequisite classes– Many of the concurrent enrollment/dual credit courses you will need to attain an associate degree have prerequisites. Take them ahead of time so you can seamlessly enroll in the necessary dual credit courses during your sophomore, junior and senior year.

  • Take dual credit courses early– If possible, be sure to participate in whichever dual credit courses are available to you. By taking dual credit courses early, you’ll reduce the academic requirements necessary to earn an associate degree.

Associate Degree Option Requirements
Once you decide to participate in the Associate Degree option, and meet eligibility criteria, you must complete the following requirements:

  • Submit the Associate Degree Pre-Advising questionnaire

  • Once approved, meet with a Concurrent Enrollment advisor at least once per school year to outline and stay current on your degree plan

  • Complete an agreement of participation and degree plan. Only students with an advisor approved degree plan are eligible to take Boise State summer classes at the reduced Associate Degree rate of $65 per credit

  • Be admitted and actively enrolled in dual credit or on campus courses throughout your participation in the option

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and remain in good academic standing

NOTE: Boise State offers discounted courses in the summer semester at a rate of $75.00 per credit. This fee may be paid with Fast Forward funds if applicable. Students will be charged full fees should they choose to take college courses in the fall or spring semester at Boise State. Fast Forward will reduce Boise State fall or spring course fees by $75.00 per credit (i.e., $225 for 3 credits; $300 for 4 credits). This may include UF 200, which is required to earn an associate degree.
