Athletic Training & Sports Medicine
Athletic training services provided to Eagle High School student athletes include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergency care, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic Trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who provide these services under the direction and in collaboration with their team physician. The sports medicine team consists of the athletic trainer, the team physician, and other health care providers who assist in keeping the student athletes safe and injury-free.

Meet our Staff

Nick Brunker, MS, LAT, ATC
Head Athletic Trainer
Nick is the Head Athletic Trainer at Eagle High School. He holds a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Temple University and a Bachelor of Science in Human Health and Performance, as well as Spanish, from the College of Idaho. 2024-2025 school year is his third year at Eagle High School and fifth year within the West Ada School District, where he plays a key role in promoting athlete safety and well-being.
He serves as the co-chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee for the Idaho Athletic Trainers’ Association. Additionally, under his leadership, Eagle High School was awarded the Safe Sports School designation by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) for 2023–2026. Nick, his wife Kira, and their dogs enjoy exploring the beautiful Idaho outdoors.

Spencer Pike, MS, LAT, ATC
Assistant Athletic Trainer
Spencer is the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Eagle High School. He earned his Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Idaho as well as his Bachelor of Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences. 2024-2025 is his first year at Eagle High School.

Dr. Derek Kunz, MD
Directing/Team Physician
Dr. Kunz has been the team physician for Eagle High School since the 2022-2023 school year. He grew up in rural Idaho and his is first exposure to a physician was someone who had to be prepared to deal with a variety of medical conditions, as access to a specialist was limited. As he has gone through his medical training, he has held on to the idea that a physician should be able to help a variety of people. Whether it be a life-threatening condition or a minor injury, his passion involves getting people back to their goal activity level. From the potato farmer to the elite level athlete, Dr. Kunz's patients can expect a comprehensive approach to their care and access to a wide variety of treatment plans.
