FFA is an intra-curricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership.  Agriculture is an integral part of our life and Ag/FFA classes are offered throughout the district to encourage students to participate and understand the importance of Agriculture in our lives.

IN the CLASSROOM

There are several pathways within the agriculture and FFA system.  The pathways include Leadership/Education, Animal Science, Plant Science, Small Gas Engines, and Welding.  These classes are not all offered at the feeder schools, and many are taught at Meridian High School at the MCTC.  For more information and complete list visit: Agriculture Course Pathways

What does FFA stand for?

The official name of the organization is the National FFA Organization.

The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. Members want to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture.  FFA is devoted to honoring our past and present society members who strive to make this world, nation, community a better place.

Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too.

Activities in FFA are called CDE or Career Development Events. These events have a wide variety of activities and events that represent an extremely wide variety of skillsets that members possess.  It does not matter what your strengths are, there is probably something within the list that all students can participate in and improve necessary life skills.

These events and activities allow students to grow outside of school and present more opportunities than most students are able to participate in other areas.  Contests are held at different times depending on the CDE, but many competition CDE’s are held at the State Leadership Conference (SLC) in April or Mosco CDE’s in June. 

There are twelve acting FFA Advisors within the West Ada district. Meridian High School is the magnet school for Agriculture.  The MCTC is where the majority of the higher level classes are taught and students can travel from their home schools to get the opportunity to increase their class options.
