Chief Joseph School Profile
Our mission is to pursue excellence in academics, the arts and character development.
School Pride:
Recognized in 2018 as an Idaho Blue Ribbon School and in 2019 as a National Blue Ribbon School, Chief Joseph Elementary takes great pride in its students' academic success and encourages high levels of student and family engagement! The Chief Joseph School mission is to pursue excellence in academics, the arts, and character development; staff are dedicated to helping students become both good citizens and strong students. While admission to our K-5 school requires acceptance through the West Ada School District lottery, and families can apply to Chief Joseph regardless of home address, most of our students live in the surrounding neighborhoods and walk or bike to school. Chief Joseph is a Title I school, an English Learners magnet school, and a school of choice in the arts, meaning students are given additional opportunities in visual arts, musical arts, and dramatic arts. Built in 1991, Chief Joseph continues to be a vital, inclusive, high-achieving elementary school - we welcome your interest and involvement! The Chief Joseph mascot is the Appaloosa and our colors are teal, black and white.

Grading and Reporting:
As in all West Ada elementary schools, proficiency scales are provided for each priority standard to show students, teachers, and parents what students must master at each level of learning. The numbers on the proficiency scale represent progression on a learning continuum.
