There are two time periods to apply:

  2. During the late application period starting in January (pending seat availability).

Only the applications submitted in November will qualify for the lottery that takes place in December.

Important Dates to Remember:

  • 2024-2025 School of Choice Application Window - November 7 - 30 (new students only, current students should have already completed the intent to return form)

  • 2024-2025 School of Choice Lottery Draw - December 4th, 5th, 6th

  • 2024-2025 School of Choice Acceptance Window - December 8 - 18

If you need assistance filling out the online application, please contact our school office.

Online applications must be completed by the due date in order to be considered on time.

Lottery

If more students apply than seats are available at any School of Choice, in any grade level, then students will be selected by random lottery. All schools of choice, with the exception of Idaho Fine Arts Academy, have a scheduled lottery time. The order in which lotteries are drawn is random and changes yearly. Applicants will be notified by email of the lottery results.

Enrolling in School

If a student’s name is drawn in the lottery for acceptance to the school, the student's family is asked to submit notice that they accept or decline the position within a given time frame. If the student accepts a position at the school, the student then enrolls. If a student declines, or does not accept the position within the given time frame, the student no longer has a position reserved at that School of Choice.

Transportation

There is limited bus service for students attending Chief Joseph, and no shuttle bus transportation from a student's 'home school' to Chief Joseph. Please phone our district's Transportation Office for more information at (208)-229-8500.

Boundaries

A student’s traditional school attendance boundary is separate and distinct from a School of Choice boundary. Each School of Choice has a primary boundary, and some have secondary boundaries, from which students are given preference in the lottery over those outside of the boundary borders. In-district applications are considered before out-of-district applications in the lottery process.

Late Applications

Late applications are those submitted any time outside of the general application window. Late applications are considered in the order received, regardless of in-district boundary or sibling status. Out-of-district late applications are considered after in-district late applications.
