Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule

  • As technology becomes an integral part of our teaching, students are using digital resources on a daily basis. Safety and proper usage of the chosen technology is a vital part of implementation. The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a law designed to ensure the online privacy and safety of personal information of children younger than 13. If your student is under age 13, you can review the Child Online Privacy Protection Act at http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm. As part of COPPA, we have listed all of the websites, programs, and apps that are currently being used at River Valley that use personal identifiable information on our school website. If you are unable to access this information, a hard-copy will be provided at your request. The personal information utilized can include student first and last name, classroom teacher, or grade level. We use this information for instructional purposes to help track student progress and achievement using the specific features of the program. Please be aware that your student’s teacher may or may not be using all of the apps listed.
